VISIT TO JINJA

Greetings to all,
On monday afternoon,we set off from Mubs, for Jinja. On our way,we stopped by Namugongo martrys shrine where we were given a tour around and told of the story of how the martyrs were killed.

After the martrys shrine,we then proceeded to Jinja. It is a district in the eastern part of Uganda about 40 km from Kampala.ON our way we passed by the Nambole stadium which is the biggest in Uganda,Seeta another town and also by one of the most prestigious girls' schools,Namagunga.

We also passed by Mabira forest, which is the biggest in Uganda and a home to many animals incuding the famous monkeys that are more likely to be seen.We passed by Kasaku tea estates at Lugazi, along the Lugazi Jinja road.Lugazi is one of the major sugarcane growers, with Kakira and Mehta,as the major sugar producing factories.

Jinja produces hydro electricity power at the Owen falls dam and this power is supplied to the different parts of the country.Jinja used to be a major industrial and business center but what remains today is quite unbelieveable. The city looks deserted ,however,it is home to some factories like the Nile breweries and Nytil,a cloth producing factory.

Jinja also has some tourist attractions that include the Bujagali Falls,a breath taking site with fast flowing waters and the source of the Nile. There are also plenty of craft sites around these attractions.Jinja also has beautiful resorts like the Nile resort,King Fisher resort ,to mention but a few.

The people who live in Jinja are mainly the Basoga who speak Lusoga and are mainly farmers. However,Jinja also has very many indians living there. Some of the food grown includes sweet potatoes, groundnuts, sugarcanes, to mention but a few. Some of the schools in Jinja include Jinja college, Jinja secondary schools.
